What are dental X-rays?

Dental X-rays are pictures that are taken of your teeth and the surrounding bone that can show cavities, hidden dental structures, and bone loss that are difficult to detect with the naked eye. X-rays help our dentist locate and diagnose problems in your smile.

What is digital imaging?

Digital imaging is a new X-ray technique that makes it even easier for our dentist to diagnose issues with your smile. Unlike traditional X-rays, with film that had to be developed in a dark room, digital imaging sends the image directly to a computer in a matter of seconds. Digital images can be enhanced and enlarged on the computer screen so any abnormalities are easy to observe. Digital X-rays can also be compared to each other in a process called subtraction radiography. In this technique, all of the areas of the image that are alike are subtracted, leaving only the differences. This allows Dr. Gregory G. Oman to locate even miniscule changes in your smile. Bite Wing digital X-rays are recommended annually and a panoramic digital X-ray is recommended every five years.
