What are dentures?

Dentures are removable appliances that replace missing teeth and the surrounding tissues. Dentures are custom made for your mouth by our dentist to ensure the best possible fit and comfort. If you have lost all or most of your natural teeth, Dr. Gregory G. Oman may recommend dentures in Bountiful, Utah!

What are complete dentures?

If all of your teeth are missing, complete dentures may work for you. Complete dentures come in two types: conventional and immediate. Conventional dentures are not made until any remaining teeth have been removed and your jaw’s healing process has begun. Conventional dentures are usually placed in the mouth about eight to twelve weeks after your teeth are removed. Immediate dentures are made in advance, so they are ready to be placed as soon as your teeth are removed. The gums and bones shrink during the healing process, which means that immediate dentures usually require several adjustments to fit properly and may require a follow up exam 4-6 months later.

What are partial dentures?

If you still have one or more natural teeth remaining in the upper or lower jaw, partial dentures may be used for your smile. Removable partial dentures are made up of replacement teeth attached to a gum-colored base that is attached to the mouth with a metal framework. Fixed partial dentures, also called bridges, consist of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap with replacement teeth in between.
